T is for Team Mates

My A-Z Theme is based on my books, the Game On series. You won’t need to have read them to follow this story, since it’s slightly removed from the full plot, like a side story. What it will do is give you a glimpse into my characters, and a chance to get to know them a little bit, PLUS, during the story, you will get a mini tour of parts of the UK! The posts will come from two of my main characters, Leah Walker and Radleigh McCoy.  If this is your first time here, please start at the letter A. :D

T - Team Mates
(Radleigh)

I’d never spent much time away from L.A without my team mates. Off season, I didn’t go on vacation, because, why would I? When you live in Los Angeles, every day is like a vacation. Leah showed me there is a lot more to the world than the place I grew up, and she made me want to see more.

But being away from my team mates was weird. We weren’t just colleagues, we were buddies, and we hung out together away from work a lot. Not having them around made me appreciate how hard it must have been for Leah to move to a different country, and be without everyone she knew. Made me appreciate how hard it would be to do it again. It would be different this time because she had real friends in L.A now, but I saw how close she was to her family, especially her brother and her niece and nephew, and leaving them behind again would hurt her. I was too selfish to be the kind of guy who told her I’d understand if she wanted to stay in England. I wouldn’t. I wanted her with me. But I had a better understanding of how difficult it would be for her to make the move now.

Today's teaser comes from the latest book in the Game On Series, Sidelined.
Blurb: At the age of twenty-one, Bree Collinson has more than she ever dreamed of. A handsome husband, a fancy house, and more shoes than Carrie Bradshaw and Imelda Marcos combined. But having everything handed to her isn’t the way Bree wants to live the rest of her life. When an idea to better herself pops into her head, she doesn’t expect her husband to question her, and keep her tied by her apron strings to the kitchen.

Isolated and unsure who to turn to, Bree finds herself falling back into a dangerous friendship, and developing feelings for the only person who really listens to her. Torn between her loyalty to her husband and her attraction to a man who has the perfect family she always wanted, she has some tough choices to make.

While Bree tries to figure out what she wants, a tragedy rocks the Westberg Warriors, triggering some dark memories, and pushing her to take a look at what’s really important.

  1. I've never played organized sports seriously (I'm way too lazy!), but I've always been envious of the bond that forms, because it is often more like family than friends. Good thing this bond gave him perspective.

Hope you’re having fun with the A to Z challenge,

  2. It's true that people on sports teams develop a deep sense of camaraderie. I've never experienced it (I don't fit into any group all that well anyway), but I've seen it. You see it in a lot of other places, including the military. I think it's good that he has some understanding of how difficult moving will be for her.

  3. It's nice to see he's understanding her predicament.

  4. You're rich Radleigh! Set her up in two homes. (I'm a problem solver, even for the fictional sorts of dilemmas)

  5. Could you up and move to a completely new country? Overseas?

I don't think I could. Not by myself anyway.

  6. I was never part of a team, but teammates really are like family. I've wished for that kind of bond among friends. Maybe it's because they win and lose together that they seem closer than another other group of friends.

  7. I moved across states away from my friends and family. It is never easy! great post Kyra like always. Can't wait to read it!

  9. *sniff, sniff* We're getting ready to move right now. Not cool. Not cool at all, Kyra. ;)

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo

Dust It Off Bloghop!

Welcome to day one of the Dust It Off Bloghop, hosted by Theresa Paolo and Cortney Pearson ! This hop is all about the WIPs you wrote, and then shelved! Okay, so I am teaming up with Clare Dugmore for this one, because back in 2006 - yup, we've known each other THAT long lol! - we started to write a book together. Unfortunately, other commitments got in the way and we never finished it - but even so many years on - it's still something we remember fondly, so we're going to dust it off for you! The first day, May 3rd: We want you to post a 1-2 sentence pitch (Great way to practice pitches) about the shelved WIP. Here is the pitch Clare and I came up with: For best friends Caitlin and Tori, their first acting job out of Uni opens up a whole new world for them – unfortunately, it wasn’t the world they were expecting. When the strains of adult life and tangled relationships threaten to ruin their friendship, they are forced to take a look at what’s really importan
